The Bureau offers special outreach to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions to inspire student persistence and achievement in the scientific endeavor.

Dr. Alexandria Graves, a native of Yanceyville, North Carolina, arrived at the doors of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) with ambitions to someday enter the world of medicine.  Her major changed several times while at WSSU, first medical technology, and then physical therapy and finally when she realized her calling she settled into biology as a major.
